Hello everyone!!, I’m new here. What a sweet osprey couple and babies. My first view of this nest was of George feeding Gracie while she was brooding over her new chicks. I was immediately taken in by these two. And wowzers, that wind is something else. Very interesting to watch them.
Just found this amazing osprey cam can someone please tell me who the third osprey is?is it #3 from last years litter?also where is this nest EXACTLY? THANKYOU,I’m really enjoying this…
Hello All! This will be my 2nd year watching George and Gracie and praying all the chicks survive this year! My question is since George is back, is he waiting on Gracie to start building the nest?
Judy
I was wondering about a nest in the riverhead/flanders area on the corner of rt 105 and …. ( not sure of exact street name ) Its such a busy intersection !! Is anyone else as concerned ? I keep imagining little fledglings bouncing around and getting hit by a car .is there any way of putting a pole further back a bit? I would be willing to start a gofundme page to get it done..
Well i’m glad to know others are having problems with the comment page. Only 1 is showing up. I have posted 2 times and it was there once than gone again.
Hope they get it figured out soon.
Although we are sometimes slow to moderate, all comments are posted, with very few exceptions. if your comments are a “reply” they will be posted with the original. Comments are posted most recent first so sometimes the comments get a little buried. Sorry about that.
I’m not watching the live feed every minute, of course, but every time I did look today the chicks are not being fed. Have I just missed the feedings or is George having a hard time catching fish? Also, the last comment on “Get In The Zone” is dated July 11th. Just my computer or everyone’s?
So I have just been doing reply’s to post, which seems to work out well. Hey, how about those feathered creatures, telling us where to go with “decorating” that amazing high resolution camera! All of us animal lovers continue to squint around the you know what….all well and good. The two remaining seem to be thriving ?
Today on SAT. july 11th, i have been watching nearly all day. i haven’t seen George deliver one fish!! I hope I’m wrong, since there were periods i was not on site.
However, it is 2:42PM now and i would think i would have seen something??!!
C’mon, George. Good luck fishing. Bring home a big one (or two)
I , too, miss the comments from folks. Also, the blurred screen is so frustrating. Has either chick tried to fly yet? When would they if they haven’t as yet?
Eleanore
For some unknown reason I am unable to get the live feed to load. Can’t get any segment of the day to load either. From the comments prior it looks like I may be the only one?
That is so funny! I wondered what happened to the beautiful clear broadcast! anyone willing to carry some windex and towels up to clean off the screen? Not too sure how mom and babies would greet you ?
I was off the website for a few days and so, missed the ‘thinning’ of the nursery. I had a feeling he was not going to make it and had already seen the dominant one crowding him out at feedings. I’m not sure if I’m glad I missed the event or not (it’s nature, like it or not). In any event, I signed on today and just noticed that there were only two young ones in the nest. I was just curious – how did they get rid of the dead one?
Well, perhaps “glad” is not the word I should have used, but I watch this site (when I do) to watch nature – ALL of it, even the not pretty parts. It’s a learning experience. I was kind of rooting for the little one, too, but that is our human judgment on things. That is fine, too, but I try to look past even my own feelings to observe nature, as it is.
It was very distressing to hear about what happened to the baby in the nest. I know that in nature it’s the survival of the fittest, but from what I read, it was brutal. I’m glad I didn’t see what was going on.
I agree with all of you – so very sad to have witnessed the vicious attacks on the little one. I had a pit in my stomach for days & yesterday was just brutal. I am new to Osprey observing and want to thank Tommy for giving us all the opportunity to spy in on George & Gracie and their little ones.
Yesterday was so hard to watch. I have read that it is uncommon for Osprey chicks to attack their siblings. This poor little guy or girl was such a fighter. He had such a will to live. Watching was brutal but nature is the survival of the fittest. I kept hoping he or she would just go to sleep and pass so it would not have to suffer the attacks. They were so horrible and it was totally defenseless. It will be interesting to watch what happens with the other two. Thank you for posting this. I will never forget that little guy!
I am really glad that humans did not interfere with the events that unfolded in the nest. I am very interested to see what actually happens in nature otherwise I would not watch. So I appreciate the fact that this cam allows us to see it. Speaking of seeing it, is there any way I can get footage of yesterday’s events? I missed out on it. If anyone can help I would appreciate it very much thanks.
My 10 year old daughter and I had named the little one Gemma as she was such a little GEM! Very sad day indeed. It will be very hard to let my daughter know what has happened tonight and not sure that I want her to see the nest with her lying there but sometimes these things can help kids prepare for life’s hardships. Looking forward to seeing the day her siblings take flight and we will can all smile again! Thanks again for this amazing site!
You’re a great dad for sharing such experiences with your daughter. Should certainly be edited for her, but the fact that you have this one on one time with her will prove to be invaluable to both of you down the road.
Can someone tell me how old these chicks are? I can’t bear to keep scrolling through all the comments about the little guy but am curious. There was such a significant difference in size and I wonder if it was smaller for lack of nourishment or hatched several days later.
I saw a little while ago one of the survivors laying with a wing over the little body and couldn’t help but think it was comforting it’s sibling. I know that is not true, but it gave ME comfort to think it. It is so easy to “humanize” animals and attach feelings to them that they just don’t have. Sigh. I am happy they are eating well today.
Hatch dates and times are as follow: Chick #1: Friday, June 12th @ 6:50 am – Chick #2: Saturday, June 13th @ 5:48 am – Chick #3: Monday, June 15th @ 3:05 pm (all times are EDT)
I think we all will never forget the little one. He was a fighter to live and thriving and if the dominant one had left him alone my bet was on him to make it. We knew the chances of survival for the last born was only about 30% but I thought it died because of weakness and not being able to feed. The viciousness of the larger one’s attack was shocking. I’m curious…..Is this how all the little ones in nests die? I still would like some more education. Why did the parents let the large one do that….is that common? Why isn’t George feeding the remaining two or am I just missing feeding time? Thanks for further information.
Actually, Mike’s 4PM report was inaccurate, but, Mike, with all that vicious behavior,I can see how you might have thought the little one was dead.
However, here it is July first, @8Am, the little one is definitely GONE. Absolutely stone still. Some flies have gone near him. When George flew in earlier, he cocked his head and looked down at him a few times. No movement, no response.
This has been a tough scene for all of us, and, of course the Osprey family!! As one viewer noted, nature is not like Disney.
Let us now hope the other two thrive and fledge. Whether we like it or not, the dominant one certainly has the traits to do so.
Tom, i do thank you for setting up this site. Of course, we were shocked, but now more knowledgeable.
I think i will remember this little one forever!
Rest in peace.
About 4:40 today one of the chicks killed one of the others over about 10-15 minutes by pecking it to death. Brutal, but real, if you want to see it unfold rewind to about 4:30.
Around 7AM this morning, George flew in, no fish!!
i have watched periodically since then. He remains in the nest. NO FOOD has arrived!! Rdg other posts other places, people say that the female does not fish except under dire circumstance. Why has George not gone fishing??? This is getting very bad, with the little one under siege, and now, NO fishing, no food from George!! What is happening to cause this??
Does anyone know, Is this normal osprey behavior that the larger chicks will peck the smallest to death and why does the female allow it?? Also what would make George stop fishing? I’m new to this and would love a pro to answer some of these questions.
I agree, so hard to watch the little one. It is nature , it’s very hard and I too am saddened. I can’t get the image out of my head. I appreciate the honesty of the other commenter, it’s not the Disney channel, this is real. It’s a reminde that nature has to take its course and we have to relax with what is and the the best we can to protect nature but yet let it be
Have to take a break from watching for a few days, and let nature take its course. Plan to pick up watching in a few days. The web cam is amazing, but it’s not Disney World, nor should it be.
Susan, my thoughts exactly, you put it so well……I’m considered a pretty “Tough guy” but I can’t bear this…..will check in about a week from now and I only expect to see two fledglings…..sad.
This is difficult to watch and I need to take time away. I was all for nature taking its course but now I find myself feeling as though there should be a human intervention. Im not sure what the right thing is.. I just know I am unable to continue to watch this little bird picked on so much. Thank you for all of your efforts. They were good in intention.
I can’t see how the little one can make it. Every time it lifts its head to feed the big ones attack it and won’t let it eat. Sad because he was a little fighter and doing so well for so long. This is nature, I know, but I’m finding it hard to watch these attacks.
It was really a great idea to erect the nest platform and to broadcast the web feed, all Long Islanders will get to appreciate these beautiful birds and their family life. Thanks again for your efforts.
Tommy, Thanks so much for setting all this up.
We’re in Northern New Hampshire (Formerly of E. Marion) and have been watching since the 1st eggs hatched.
Thank you again!!
Well George came home with a huge branch that is longer than the nest. He flew in and promptly laid it over one of the chicks. After a few minutes of trying to figure out how to move the stick without giving Junior a concussion, he & Gracie lifted it over the chicks head. Very funny to watch.
The Boca Raton Garden Club has been watching since the first chick hatched. Hope they pass by on their way to South America. Thank you for sharing.
Kathy
In response to Eleanor’s post, don’t be too surprised if they starve the smallest chick. In my experience with the Wertheim cam the chick is much too young to fledge at its proper time. The chicks are usually born around mother’s day, give or take and fledge in the beginning of Sept. It’s very sad to watch but we really can’t interfere.
At this point I would not worry about the little one starving. A few minutes ago as it has done all day stepped right up to be fed and bonked the oldest sibling when it got in the way. From what I can determine there is only about three days in hatching.
June – I understand…survival of the fittest…but still sad. She even seems to feed one of the other two more. Did the male bring in the mesh? I missed that.
When I saw the Newsday article this AM I immediately logged on to see your website. I was abosolutely thrilled to see the webcam coverage of the parent ospreys and their 3 chicks. You have created a great opportunity to see mother nature at it’s best. Thank you for making this amazing site available to the public.
I did the same thing and am fascinated watching this unfold in nature. But’ I’m also sad to see how the mother feeds so little to the smallest chick. That chick is fighting for his/her life!

I am so excited to see that another osprey cam is available after losing the one near Werthiem. I watched “Betty” and “Dennis” (named after the Puleston’s, who were responsible for banning DDT} for a few yearsand have been in withdrawal since lightening took the camera out.
The most important thing to remember is that this is nature and we cannot interfere with the way they raise their young and it may be very gruesome at times. So much to learn from these magnificent creatures. Thank you.
I watched the Mother covering the chicks as the wind was blowing her and the nest! I’m praying they are all ok after the storm but the camera is out right now.
Really heavy duty storm passing thru. The cam went off line at 8pm exactly. Not sure if the storm knocked it out or the operator shut it down.
The female was flat against the nest trying to protect the chicks from the storm.
I am totally addicted, can’t stop watching. My heart breaks for the littlest chick who doesn’t seem to get as much to eat as the other two bigger ones.
Yesterday afternoon I saw Mom grab the biggest baby because he was too close to the nest edge. She literally picked him up and short hopped back to the center of the nest. I never saw that move before. I named number three, Tiny Tim. I hope Mom keeps feeding him. He does have the will to live and does give his bigger siblings what for!!
There is black plastic too close to the Osprey chicks. They will get entangled if the wind doesn’t blow it off or it gets stuck on sticks. Is there a way to remove the plastic? Thank you and would appreciate a careful watch of the situation.
We don’t see any issues on our end right now, things are all looking good. When problems persist, first try reloading the page. We were having some problems the other day that we think we resolved, but there’s always tomorrow!
My friend and I have driven all over the North Fork every summer checking on as many nests as we can. I love these birds. Love to see them arrive each year and hate to see them leave. Thanks so much for this spectacular close up of these magnificent birds!
Thank you so much for this beautiful treat!!! My husband and I watch everyday. Congratulations on the babies George and Gracie looking forward to seeing #3 hatch soon.
Has anyone seen the mother feed the chick yet? If so, could a highlight video be created? Watching more & more now in hopes of seeing a lot of “firsts”, but I obviously can’t watch all the time. So thanks so much for the highlight videos as well!

Gorgeous!
I Love this!

Saturday April 23 at 1:54 pm…Just watched a Sparrow come and remove some nesting material.
So cute, I guess he thinks it’s his own personal Ikea !
Hi.go to ozpreyzone.com and go to live feed ..this is where most posts are
Don’t know who it is, but there is a nest being built !!! HOORAY !!
April 3 , 11:45 AM
Just tuned in…there’s an Osprey perched on the nest ! Is it George ?

Can plastic mesh be removed from nest
I’m so glad to see another live osprey web cam. I used to be addicted to the nest by Wertheim until they lost it to lightening strike. There is so much to learn from these majestic birds.

I watched the Mother covering the chicks as the wind was blowing her and the nest! I’m praying they are all ok after the storm but the camera is out right now.
OK, everyone is well. Camera is working, just having troubles getting back to stream. should be up around 9AM

Too early to file for a tax reduction?
It’s never too early to apply for a property tax reduction. You can apply online at https://www.taxreductionservices.com/get-started/ or print out the contract, complete it and mail it back to us.
Wow this is really cool and it’s only 400ft from my house. I’ve been wondering if it was a camera up on the tower. This is great good job guys
Thank You!!
